Albury Wodonga's outdoor club for bushwalking (and skiing, cycling and canoeing)

I would like to be a leader but...

  • I am afraid of snakes
  • I am not fit enough
  • I don't know what is involved
  • I don't know where to go
  • My rich aunty is ill, and I don't want to miss the reading of the will
  • I am not confident
  • I don't have anyone to go with
  • I am navigationally challenged

Let's consider each of these in turn:

  • Afraid of snakes. Consider our club's record; about 25 000 person-days of walking and no-one has been bitten by a snake. You can also wear gaiters, (which makes you look trendy), and carry a snake bite kit.
  • Not fit. The most popular walks are the easy one of a few km length, that anyone can do. You will not get fit sitting at home wishing.
  • Don't know what is involved. Here is a general outline of how to organise a walk.
  • Don't know where to go. The club has a list of walks suitable for each season.
  • Aunty is ill. Take a mobile phone.
  • Lack confidence. We have a list of mentors available to go with any new leader.
  • Don't have anyone to go with. You will as soon as you advertise an activity in Footprints.
  • Navigationally challenged. This is not a problem. Many of our walks are on well marked tracks where it would be hard to get lost. Take a mentor with you.
